SSI Open Water Diver Dive Course

Dive into your underwater adventure with our SSI Open Water Diver Course. The course is your introductory into the scuba diving realm. Personalized training is combined with in-water practice sessions to ensure you have the skills and experience required to become truly comfortable underwater. By the end of the course you will earn the globally recognized SSI Open Water Diver Certification!

The course involves an Online Theory segment, One pool session, and 4 Open Water dives at Goat Island Marine Reserve! (Completed on two separate days)

Each Student will need their own Mask, Snorkel, Fins, Booties and gloves for the course. We supply all other equipment needed. (all students automatically receive a minimum of a 10% discount in store) Epic Scuba does not provide transport

Prerequisites

Minimum Age: 10 Years Old

Swimming: All Divers will need to show basic water skills to be sure you will be comfortable in the water. You will be required to swim 200 meter's without any swim or buoyancy aids, or 300 m with a mask, snorkel, and fins. There is no time limit for this, but it must be completed without stopping or standing. Plus you will need to be able to tread water (Overhead depth) for 10 minutes

Medical History: All students are required to fill out the RTSC Medical form, which will ask about medical issues that may cause a problem with diving if answered yes on any of them you will be required to have your doctor assess the issue and sign that you are fit to dive.

Equipment 

All Students are to required to have at minimum their own mask, snorkel, fins, booties and gloves for the course.  We do provide the rest of the equipment needed for your course but some gear (such as wetsuits) have a personal fit and would be more comfortable in your own, you are more than welcome to provide your own gear. Epic Scuba has a range of Scuba Equipment for sale and your instructor will help you pick out the best gear for you. Our students also automatically get a minimum of a 10% discount on all dive gear in-store.

How its Run

Once Payment is received you will receive the online theory. This will need to be completed before your Pool session. SSI has mastered the use of digital technology to make the learning experience easy for all!

You will then come along to one of our pool sessions that we run on Sundays at Otahuhu Pool Complex from 12:30 -5:30 pm. Here you will learn in a controlled environment all the necessary skills you will need to become a great diver!

Once comfortable and ready to go to the open water we will head out to Goat Island Marine reserve to complete your Open Water dives. Here you will apply your knowledge in a real-world environment alongside your instructor. You will need two weekend mornings to complete your Open water dives (2 dives a day) scheduled either Saturdays or Sundays at the students request. You will receive weekly texts from us about upcoming dives or see our calendar online.

Once you have completed all required training sessions, final exam and open water training dives, We will issue your digital certification card which will show up instantly on your MySSI App.
